29th of January..Iam still waiting for all those skeptics to answer..For all those who thought we were going crash and burn in January..Chelsea is at the top of the table with a game in hand..Chelsea hasnt lost a single game in January..The abscence of Drogba and Essien hasnt pushed us into an abyss..Instead we’ve come out stronger and we’ve sent out a strong word to our rivals that we dont depend on 1-2 players..The best thing about this entire scenario is that not once have I heard Carlo give a Wengersque groaning interview about player injuries and abscences..Chelsea has depth..Chelsea has a bench with players who would be first team sureshots in other clubs..and in a competition like the premier league thats vital..If only Wenger understood..
The performance was (as the commentator correctly said) full of authority..Now I havent really seen teams commiting so many men to attack when they are 3-0 up..Chelsea did that against Sunderland and Chelsea have done it now..this is where I feel we are different from the Jose era..there we were getting the job done..here we’re giving the other teams a serious thinking job to do after the matches..which one do I like more? Well Iam saying nothing against TSO..:D

What else could I ask for?Ironically according to me and Carlo Chelsea have produced their best performance of the season without their Best player of the season..Yes We were supposed to struggle..we were supposed to crash and burn in the absence of Drogba and Essien..What did we do?We crushed a team who has formerly given the top4 nightmares this season..Crushed almost sounds an understatement here..There were so many Man Of the Matches yesterday..Ashley Cole for perfect attacking midfield play!(because he didnt have to do anything defensively)..Anelka for getting the brace, opening the scoring more importantly for proving that theres not one but two World Class strikers at Chelsea..Malouda for his magnificent solo goal..Ballack for playing that wonderful first time ball for Anelka’s goal and thumping his header without any problems..Lampard again for scoring his two goals..Joe Cole and Belletti were amazing too..Joe Cole perhaps should have got a brace himself..Belletti bossed the central midfield with amazing ease..
Now while I do agree Sunderland werent great but that doesnt mean Iam taking away any greatness from Chelsea..Absolutely scintillating performance..Now Joe Cole..his contract expires this summer..He’s demanding a payhike..he’s paid 80K at present and is perhaps demanding a deal worth more than 100K..While I like all the fans love him I will still say that he hasnt done enough to earn the sort of salary he is demanding..Iam sure he loves Chelsea too and would love to stay here..but if he wants that 3 figure salary he’ll have to be better and more consistent..Anyway moving on to the other matches..Man Utd won..Arsenal scraped past..So we’re still just narrowly leading..but we have the ever so lovable ‘game-in hand’..:D..

Chelsea ?-? Hull
Yup..no match this weekend due to poor weather conditions..In ordinary circumstances I would be disgusted right now but instead Iam quite pleased..Earlier in the week we were topping the table but now we’re topping the table with a game in hand! Now thats delighting..While I did want us to play and beat Hull I think we can already celebrate considering both our supposed title rivals dropped points..Supposed because I simply will not accept Arsenal as a TITLE rival..they’ve begun their nosedive a little early it seems..anyway Man Utd are not worrying me much either..they just lack that sting..
January..ACON month..No Drogba, No Essien, No Mikel, No Kalou..sounds depressing? should not..look at this.. Anelka back, Kakuta will play, Malouda/Deco will play, JOE COLE, will play, Borini should get his chances..and most of all Sturridge..In the last two games..i.e Fulham and Watford I have begun to appreciate him much more than I did when he was signed..I’ve said it a numbe of times and I’ll say it again..More depends on him than Anelka this month..Iam not saying that Anelka wont score..oh he’ll outscore every striker in the league during this period..but expect a last season like Anelka this time..well I dont mind to be frank..:-)

CHELSEA 5-0WATFORD
I’ve seriously been waiting for something like this for a long time now..It had been quite some time since we demolished an opposition like this..I know it was against Watford but then scoring 5 goals against any team is amazing..And the best thing about this win is Sturridge! Drogba has left..Anelka has only just come back from injury..and Kalou has never been my favourite..So I feel Sturridge is the man to take us through January..He may not be a Drogba..He may not be an Anelka but I seriously feel he is exactly what we need during January..striking problem solved..Bring On January!!
Another great thing about this round..Leeds! haha..Poor ManU..humbled..ManU are weak this season and its showing..Arsenal are claiming they are the major title rivals this season..sorry..I have never and will never consider Arsenal any sort of opposition as long as a certain Frenchman is managing them..same goes for Liverpool and they’re Spaniard..From a Chelsea fans view..They’re AWESOME..may they keep their jobs for eternity and Arsenal and Liverpool will soon be in the Blue Square Premier..:D

CHELSEA 2-1 FULHAM
“DROGBA”..Yes..Him again..and what a time..Whatever happens today we’re going to finish 2009 on top of the Premier League table..While that doesnt really define anything it does however add a considerable confidence boost to the team..and talking of confidence..How about coming back and beating your rampant nearest rivals who had just humbled Manchester United?Amazing..Chelsea were brilliant..not in the entire match..no..but in the last 30 mins..the time Ferreira came off for Ivanovic..I can remember a passage a play where Chelsea had put in around 5-6 crosses in the Fulham box in a matter of 2 mins..now that is dominance..the only thing we were lacking on the crosses was quality..they were too short or low..one decent cross from Ivanovic and BANG!..Drogba celebrating..and Sturridge! oh..he was amazing..a cameo it may be..but an amazing cameo it was..he did ever so well to get that shot on goal which produced the own goal..he’s got pace..he’s got the tricks..he’s got a cool head..ACON wont hurt us much I feel..oh and from that I remember the player who we’ve missed the most besides Essien..Anelka..he’s coming back next game..so I really feel that January is going to bring us a lot more points than December did..
The title race is still three way at the moment..while Manure and us have dropped points in december..Arsenal have been closing the gap..they have two games in hand and if we count 3 points for both of them (which is saying a lot mind you..considering Arsenal atleast) they’ll just be 1 behind us and above ManU..ask me and I’ll still say Arsenal are going to crash..just like they always do..the only difference with them this season is that they wont be sweating for a top 4 finish..i cant really be sure about that though..they’re Arsenal afterall..
Yes He’s coming back! Although not exactly in a way we all wanted but yes he is coming back..When the draw was being made I was only hoping to avoid two teams Inter and Bayern..(Bayern because i’d hate a clash of my favourites)..I dont really feel that Chelsea are at a serious danger of losing to either of the two teams,but a victory for us would mean Mourinho would be out of the competition..One thing is for certain, both him and the fans are going to love to see each other..I’ve heard from a lot of people that Mourinho knows Chelsea inside out and that’ll help Inter beat us..Please! If Chelsea were still the team Mourinho had we would have a few more trophies decorating our showpieces..So no team has any advantage..I saw Inter get beaten by Barcelona..and they were absolutely nowhere in that match..Barca nailed them and a 2-0 was the least they deserved..but then again we’re not in the form of our lives either are we? All that could change though..still around two months to the matches..
Now the two matches I missed..Portsmouth (2-1 W) and West Ham (1-1)..In both the matches we didnt play at our best..these two are the bottom two clubs at the moment and although I wouldnt complain about the Portsmouth match, I do feel a win against West Ham would have seriously made us strong favourites for the title due to an absolutely Fantastic Fulham side thumping Man Utd..If Arsenal can win their games in hand they go above them..Iam still not worried about Arsenal..Why? because they’re ARSENAL!

Ok so its that time of the year again..A transfer window is round the corner and the press as always have started linking Chelsea to every player possible..The possibility that this might be our only transfer window in the next two years with that Kakuta ban thing going on has really got the press going..Ancelotti on the other hand seems to be denying that we’ll be making any purchases at all in January..Now if you ask me I’d go with Carlo on this..because I simply dont feel that we need or we can accomodate any more players..I mean we need players where? Defense? Terry, Carvalho, Ivanovic, Ashley, Bosingwa,Alex,Belleti,Paolo..I dont think it needs anything else..Midfield Iam not even going to mention..I mean even with Essien and Mikel gone for ACON we’ll still have world class midfielders not only in the starting line up but the bench too..Attack? Drogba is untouchable at the moment and Anelka seems to have found his grove..I wouldnt replace either of these two..but a problem which I see here is their availability..Drogba is sure to miss a few games during January..but then dont forget during that period we’ll get Di Santo back and hey we signed Sturridge remember? Borini seems to be impressive too..So there shouldnt be any problems there either..
Now that I have properly explained our need (or the lack of thereof) I feel we dont need any players do strengthen our squad..I mean we dont need more players like Jack Rodwell (no offences, he’s great but if he’s going to come to Stamford Bridge and sit on the sidelines I’d rather be happy if remained at Everton)..and please please No Gattuso or Pirlo! I dont want to see any players who’re nearing or are past 30….Whereas if were to sign someone like an Aguero (or a Ribery for that matter)…it would be different..I’ve always held them in high esteem..basically the point iam trying to make here is that if we are to sign a player he must be a sure shot starter of sorts..a transfer that would create headlines..If theres one club which can do a thing like that Its Chelsea..

Chelsea 3-3 Everton
Yes that is exactly what it was..We were amazing going forward..We scored 3 goals against an Everton team but then to be honest our defense scored 3 goals on our end of the pitch as well..yes we literally gifted Everton the goals with our defense yesterday..It cant handle set pieces well..every team knows that now..It’ll be interesting to see if Carlo can prevent a Scolari like situation..He hasnt much time though..because we’ve already not won any of our last 4 games despite scoring a total of 9 goals in them..Now the real reason why Iam not flabbergasted is that we despite the draw managed to increase our lead to 3 points because Villa did us a favour of beating ManUre at OT..Now while I see this as an opportunity lost to have restored the 5 point gap Iam not complaining too much as it could have been a lot worse.
Well despite having not won the game Iam taking nothing away from our attack..Drogba and Anelka scored three goals of the highest quality..Drogba’s first was simply amazing..He hit that one so early that even if it’d have gone right beside Howard he wouldnt have stopped it..Surprising the goalkeeper is an art Drogba has mastered..He’s already scored 18 this season and if he keeps going like this all we need is a solid defense..which Iam sure we will have in weeks to come..Terry and Carvalho are going to come back like wounded tigers..GRR!
